Who Are We?

Maccabi Tzair Fort Lauderdale is a branch of Maccabi World Union, a Jewish youth movement whose directive is to pass on Jewish culture and traditions to everyone in the Tnua (our youth movement), helping them find and strengthen their Jewish identity and connection to Israel - and ultimately giving them a sense of belonging to the Maccabi Tzair family. Our madrichim (leaders) have been trained to guide the young chanichim (kids) and bring a special meaning to the meetings, programs, and events. We have groups for every age level with age-appropriate activities within each group.

Our chanichim meet every week with their friends and madrichim. They engage in a series of non-formal educational experiences through the use of games and activities. Chanichim are encouraged to connect with their fellow chanichim to form bonds that will last a lifetime. Together, they learn and develop an identity as part of the Jewish community. Field trips, sleepovers, and other special events are planned for the chanichim to have an unforgettable year.

"Maccabi Tzair Fort Lauderdale inspires the next generation of Jewish leaders."

Our Leadership Programs

Maccabi Tzair Fort Lauderdale's School of Madrichim.

School of Madrichim (9th Grade)

SOM is a year-long leadership training seminar and the first step to preparing teenagers to become incredible madrichim. The main goal of the SOM program is to establish a sense of belonging, long-lasting friendships, an increase in Jewish identity, as well as global awareness in teenagers. Additionally, teens will learn the fundamentals of becoming leaders and educators in their community through non-formal activities and seminars. SOM enables the soon-to-be madrichim to become well-rounded individuals with strong values they will pass onto their chanichim.

The transformation from Chanichim to Madrichim is finalized in this program. It is the final training for the future leaders of Maccabi and it’s considered mandatory training for Maccabi Tzair’s Madrichim. MIT participants have the opportunity to earn community service hours and participate in a number of social events/outings as well as leadership training seminars that bring the group closer together. As part of the program, Chanichim start to give back through observations, internships, committees, and stations. The program culminates with a graduation ceremony that marks the transition from Chanich/a to Madrich/a.
